Breaking the Mold: The UR-10 Space Watch is Urwerk’s first time using a round dial with central hands. For a brand known for satellite timekeeping and drifting displays, this is almost sacrilege. But these seemingly ordinary hands tell an extraordinary story. They certainly measure time, but the three subdials scattered across the dial track something far more cosmic.
This fashion luxury watch is a family heirloom—a 19th-century Gustave Sandoz pendulum clock, restored in 1996 by co-founder Felix Baumgartner’s father. Baumgartner Sr. initially couldn’t understand the measuring functions of the three subdials until he discovered their design purpose was to track the Earth’s rotation. This concept became the cornerstone of the UR-10 watch, which now measures planetary motion on three scales: the Earth’s rotation (at 2 o’clock, with increments every 10 kilometers), the Earth’s revolution around the sun (at 4 o’clock, with increments every 1000 kilometers), and a combined counter at 9 o’clock to synchronize the trajectories of both.
Familiar Territory, New Execution This watch heavily borrows from the UR-100 series, employing the same octagonal titanium construction, crown at 12 o’clock, and integrated bracelet. It uses Gérald Genta-style side screw fastenings, making it quite similar to the Nautilus series. With a diameter of 45.4 mm and a thickness of only 7.13 mm (excluding the crystal), it is one of Urwerk’s most wearable replica men watches to date. Similarly, the sandblasted titanium bracelet is seamlessly integrated with the case.
Turn it over, and you’ll find a 24-hour outer ring hand, used to track the Earth’s complete rotation. The engravings on the case back indicate rotation (clockwise) and revolution (counter-clockwise)—a subtle tribute to the actual movement of our planet in space.
Movement: Inside the case is the UR-10.01 movement, developed based on the Vaucher Manufacture and significantly improved by Urwerk’s in-house team. The complex module requires five additional axles and a skeletonized LIGA component weighing only 0.009 grams to ensure a 43-hour power reserve. Urwerk’s patented dual-flow turbine—two counter-rotating propellers—controls winding resistance through air friction rather than mechanical braking, reducing wear and creating a captivating visual effect through the case back.
