The RM 038 case is made of a strong, lightweight alloy called magnesium-aluminum AZ91. This alloy is composed of 90% magnesium and 8.9% aluminum. After a long and delicate machining phase, the alloy undergoes an electric plasma oxidation treatment called Titalyt II. The white color of the case is due to this treatment: it is a crystalline oxide ceramic with a high proportion of high-strength composite materials such as MgAl2O4 spinel.
